Dear Families,

On behalf of the Staff at St Francis of Assisi School and the Parish Priest Fr Emanuel Gatt, I would like to extend to you a very warm welcome to our school.  We are very happy and proud that you have chosen to send your child to our school and entrust him/her to our care.

The school community consists of many different ethnic groups.  At present 70% of the students are classified as Language Background Other than English with 30 nationalities.

In its ministry of the church in the Wollongong Diocese, St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School was first opened in 1960 by the Franciscan Sisters of the Heart of Jesus who led the school until 2001.  A lay Principal was appointed in 2002.  The school serves the immediate Parish area of Warrawong and Lake Heights and the neighbouring suburbs of Cringila and Berkeley. The Parish is served by the Conventual Franciscan Friars.

Due to the presence and influence of the Franciscan Sisters and the Friars, the school community has a vibrant Franciscan spirit. This results in a positive school climate characterised by staff and student cohesiveness, a firm sense of tradition and an environment where pastoral care, mutual respect and trust are evident.

Our core values of peace, acceptance, faith, respect and responsibility are central to who we are as a school community.

The future presents the motivation of challenges, the excitement of achievement and the certainty of deliberate planning.  Our current School Improvement Plan represents a collaborative overview of the school community‚Äôs aspirations and directions. It identifies a number of priorities based around: Catholic Life and Religious Education; Students and their Learning; Pedagogy; Leadership and Management; Resources and Finances; Parents and Partnerships; Strategical Management.

It is with pride that I welcome you to our school community.
